About

Our Mission

Clarity psychology aims to provide high-quality, person-centred services to people of any and all abilties. Our focus is on supporting those with a disability, rehabilitation needs, and/or persistent pain to live a quality life of their own choosing.

We are more than just a mental health care organisation; our focus on real, impactful outcomes is driven by our service-oriented philosophy and values.

Our Philosophy, Approach, and Values

At Clarity Psychology, our philosophy is an acknowledgement of the complexity and uniqueness of people’s lives, our approach is a recognition of this complexity and uniqueness, and our values are what enable us to deliver this complex, dynamic model of support day-in, day-out.

Truly person-centred care seeks to help you understand the parts of your life that make it so complex, and work with you to live a life of your own choosing.

Real trauma-informed services respect the impact of past events on your current wellbeing, and help to make sure that the path forward is a balance between safety and empowerment.

Understanding the importance of a holistic approach to wellbeing is crucial. This means also considering the impact of other important dimensions such as your physical and social health, on your wellbeing. We value professional collaboration and are motivated to work with experts in their field to make sure the holistic approach is done right.

Finally, evidence matters. In all of our services, we only use evidence-based and well-researched methods.

Combining this all together and delivering a high-quality service requires a specific set of values.

Community & Accessibility Commitment

Clarity Psychology values the importance of community and inclusion. We actively engage with local organisations to promote awareness and understanding of mental health and disability issues.

Our goal is to dismantle barriers and foster positive attitudes towards disability and mental health, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in their community.

Our office is fully wheelchair accessible, and we provide flexible service delivery, including home visits and telehealth sessions.

We strive to make psychological support accessible to everyone, and this includes working with people in remote to very-remote regions.

Our Team

Jacqui Smith

Director / Principal Psychologist

Jacqui began her psychology career in 1992 completing her undergraduate degree at Macquarie University before embarking on the obligatory backpacking tour of Europe. Upon her return, needing a job quickly, she accepted a role as a Residential Support Worker for the Cerebral Palsy Association. What she thought would be a 6-mth role became a 6-year journey, where she worked through a number of roles within the organisation, ending her journey as a registered psychologist after completing her Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychology and 2 year supervised internship.

Jacqui is passionate about the importance of putting people first, disability second, and her focus is on supporting people to recognise their potential and achieve a better quality of life. She has worked for the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Homecare, Hunter New England Health Service, and established Clarity Psychology over 15 years ago. She has also worked with youth, people seeking employment and in general psychology practice.

She is a registered Advanced/Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner with the NDIS, and consults as an Independent Specialist on Restrictive Practice Authorisation Panels for the NSW Department of Communities and Justice. She is also a Board-Approved supervisor.

In addition to disability and positive behaivour support she has extensive experience and training in pain management and trauma practice and support.

Carly Arigho

At the completion of her undergraduate degree, Carly began working as a Behaviour Support Practitioner whilst pursuing her post-graduate studies in Psychology. Since starting within the disability sector, she has developed a passion for supporting clients within a person-centred framework that is tailored not only to her clients, but also their families and support teams. Carly has a strong interest in working with children and adolescents but has experience with clients of all ages.

Carly is nearing the end of her Provisional Psychology Internship and enjoys exploring various methods of psychological assessment, intervention and supports.

She enjoys working directly with her clients as well as providing training, support and psychoeducation to those surrounding her clients. She strongly believes in seeking to understand the individual and not just challenges or diagnoses and approaches supporting her clients through strong working relationships, rapport and goals to better understand the client, their goals and how these goals can be achieved.

Outside of work, Carly loves to travel and explore new places, practice yoga and spend time with her friends and family.
